Local Scrapbook Stores

You are starting to scrapbook and you have found a cute little store full of scrapbooking goodies. Should you depend on that store for your products and scrapbooking advice? Maybe. Is everything that is stocked on the scrapbooking aisle safe for my photos and permanent? It is hard to say.

Just because a store sells scrapbooking supplies does not mean that they understand what is safe for your photos and what will be permanent. For most scrapbookers, this hobby involves more than just putting the photos in an album, we want the album to last and we want our photos to remain looking nice. Most scrapbooking stores have been started by scrapbookers and most of them have done research to find out what products are safe and permanent.  There are many factors to be considered in scrapbooking and photos safety. Are the people staffing the store scrapbooking experts? That is hard to say, each store is different. Since they are a specialty store you have a good chance of finding knowledgeable personnel in a local scrapbooking store. If you learn some basic information about what is safe before you go shopping, you'll be fine.

Will all of the products in a scrapbooking store be safe for me to use? Again, it is impossible to say because each store is different. It is wise to have some basic knowledge of safety and to know that  there are manufacturers that do not choose to make their products safe and/ or permanent for your scrapbooks.

Should I shop at my local scrapbook store then, is that what you are saying?   Yes, they may have slightly higher prices than the chains but their knowledge and individual attention make it worth your while to shop with them. Local scrapbooking stores generally have a good selection of scrapbooking classes and some feature crops and workshop space for a resonable fee. The local stores are also likely to carry a larger selection of scrapbooking items than a large craft store that caters to ALL crafters can carry.
